The first Mooresville Community Thanksgiving Meal was served in 2005, continuing a concept piloted years earlier by the Sweet Fire restaurant. When Sweet Fire closed, a Singles Bible study group from Williamson's Chapel Methodist Church decided to take up the cause. The first Mooresville Community Thanksgiving Meal was held at Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church.

The second year, the meal was moved to First Baptist Church of Mooresville in order to accommodate the expanding numbers of people taking advantage of the meal and fellowship; and to provide a more central location for every one involved. The success of this endeavor has been due in very large part to the churches and people involved.

In recent years the Mooresville Community Thanksgiving meal has expanded through the involvement of the Mooresville Christian mission and other community churches and organizations. This has permitted the Thanksgiving meal to be offered at additional serving sites at local churches around Mooresville and expanded delivery of meals to those who were unable to come to the serving sites.
